SlideScreen 1.1 Released

After a bit of an extended testing period, SlideScreen 1.1 has been released to the market. This is a pretty big release, so here’s the change list:

  • Facebook! You can now load your Facebook news stream and view entries in the built in reader. Thanks to FBConnect Android (http://code.google.com/p/fbconnect-android/) for the Faceook login support.
  • Google Reader upgrades:
    • Move between items within the reader. Just swipe the title, or use the volume buttons.
    • Automatically mark items as read when viewing them.
    • Sync only some labels/folders from your subscriptions.
    • Added feed name to title bar.
    • Specify account to load subscriptions from, overrides the built in account on your phone.
    • Character set fixes.
  • Twitter upgrades:
    • Load mentions into your timeline.
    • Better profile image caching for faster loading/browsing.
    • Swipe title or use volume buttons to navigate between tweets in the reader.
  • Stocks upgrade:
    • Specify account to load portfolio from, overrides the built in account on your phone.
  • GPS based weather location. (This is still considered in beta, but it seems to work pretty well).
  • Bug fix: Calendar entries showing up early/late based on timezone error.
  • Bug fix: Calendar names too long for screen.
  • Bug fix: International symbols in stock feeds causing incorrect values.
  • Bug fix: Battery level inconsistent with system level.
  • Bug fix: International characters in news feeds being displayed incorrectly (also fixed for tweets).
  • Bug fix: When in the GMail app, unable to see All Mail.
  • Bug fix: Google Reader update could get stuck in some situations.
  • Bug fix: Crash when long pressing on SMS icon on an HTC Sense phone.
  • Bug fix: Search button did nothing on HTC Sense phones.
  • Bug fix: Orientation change (keyboard open or device tilt) could cause settings and setup wizard to restart.

Hopefully we didn’t forget anything. Give it a try and tell us what you think! Don’t forget we try to work on features in the order of voting on the support site so go there to vote for your favorites.

Thanks for all the great feedback, hope you like it!

    Hey great update. 2 things

    1. calendar button still says application not found on droid eris (very annoying)
    2. is there a way to filter and/or pick what new feeds come through from facebook? half the people on facebook most of us don’t care about and it clutters up the homescreen with about a jillion feeds.

Looks great. Making display of services like Facebook on home screen optional would also be an improvement. Thank you.

before I download the pay app, what is the difference between free and pro besides adds on home? will I be able to chose local news feeds for reader?

I wouldn’t think a split second about buying this app, but the problem is only cc is allowed via the market. Please implement some kind of serial activation and let people buy a code via your site with paypal!

Great update. Facebook integration is appreciated, but my favorite addition is the ability to scroll the news feeds with the volume rocker. I would agree with Rob that it may be beneficial to allow Facebook filtering for those people you may be friends with on Facebook but not so much in real life.

The only difference (for now) is the free version shows an add on the screen. The news is done via syncing with Google Reader.

    awesome ! but
    1) can’t find the option to “Sync only some labels/folders from your subscriptions”
    2) like eXistenZNL, I would like to buy it but the market is locked to free apps here in europe

I *love* the app! Works like a charm on my Nexus1.
I really want to give you some of my money, but the Android Market is not yet available for my country (even if everybody loves Belgian chocolate – go figure)… So please help US help YOU by providing an alternative way of switching to the paid version: +1 on “some kind of serial activation and let people buy a code via your site with paypal”.

Downloaded the update over the weekend. I love the facebook integration in the app. Didn’t know you could swipe the headers. Using the volume rocker is a great addition. Looking forward to future versions.

Great app, and I’ll buy it for sure when it has support for Exchange email. I don’t really use gmail, so I have to admit I was a bit disappointed about that.

Got the Pro version on my myTouch and it seems to take for ever to load the home screen when I press home. Also, it crashes once in a while giving me an option to either force close or wait… takes about a minute or litter more to go to the home screen even after force closing! this is version 1.1.4

    Hello,

I have upgraded to the latest version of slide screen and it seems very, very laggy. The performance seems significantly degraded from the previous version, so much that I feel that I need to revert back to the regular Android Home Screen.

    Very Disappointing,

    Evan

    Hey Evan,

Your best bet is to head over to the support site. There’s lots of information and people tracking problems over there: http://getsatisfaction.com/larvalabs

    Thanks.

The app is also available at SlideMe: http://slideme.org/applications?text=slidescreen Glad you like it!

    Hey there,

first off: Great app, I really enjoy it.

I was wondering, when we will see a feature-update?

In addition, do you plan do update SlideScreen on a regular basis, like every month or so?

I am really considering buying it, but since the Pro version “only” removes the ads, I am not sure, if it’s worth it.

No doubt about the app itself, which is great, but the Pro-version has nearly no difference, that justifies the prize.

  18. Matt Hall on 03/25/10 at 13:07:04

Hi, probably the best place to stay up to date on the app’s progress is at our support site: http://getsatisfaction.com/larvalabs You can pretty much tell what’s coming next from the messages there, and we always post a change list from each version there.

As for the Pro version, we want people to be able to try it to see if it works on their phone before they buy it, so for now it’s got all the features. However, you’re losing around 15% of the information you can display there so it’s really a lot better without the ad.

Everytime I reboot, SS automatically force quits. What’s the deal?

Great stuff. Pls add Google Voice integration. Also I agree with @eXistenZNL ; need to offer PayPal payment option. Google knows enough about me already ; I don’t want them to also have my credit card number.
